Day 4 & 5

Day 4 : Tuesday September 27, 2011

Dotti had a great day and made huge leaps and bounds with her progress. Early Tuesday Morning I took Dotti out for her morning potty, brought her back in for her medicine, and hopped in the shower real quick before work. When I got out I was planning on doing her morning rehab when I realized she had potted in her kennel. I quickly cleaned the kennel and told her, "Dotti, do NOT move." I ran to grab two new clean carpet tiles to put into her kennel and when I got back she was standing in the door way. As I ran toward the door I said, "Dotti, I told you not to move!!" She turned around and began scooting very quickly away from me and then all of a sudden got up on her right leg!! I couldn't believe she was able to get up on her right leg! I celebrated and then realized that she would probably be pretty sore later in the day. That simple movement gave me optimism that she would be able to walk again but realized that I couldn't trust her alone. Later that day while sitting on the floor with Dotti, she wanted one of her babies and began scooting towards it and before I could stop her she was up on her right legs again. This second time I was still as excited but realized that I would have be more stern with keeping her still so that she could heal quicker.

To better keep track of all of Dotti's needs, I created a chart of write down the time of each of her needs from her medicine, to rehab, and even a potty schedule. This helps remember when exactly Dotti needs her medication and when to remember to take her to potty. If your animal ever has surgery not matter if they can walk or not, I highly suggest a schedule to keep track for your animals sake.

Day 5: Wednesday September 28, 2011

The schedule I created yesterday has helped keep Dotti's daily schedule on track. It has helped to remember what time exactly to give her morning and night medicine. The schedule has also helped determine how often she needs to be taken out. One other thing I have begun to learn about Dotti, is how much she has to potty. I have learned my lesson that when she seems like she may be done, to give it a few more minutes. You will learn this, too if you ever have a little disabled animal.

Dotti continues to progress each day, however, I did notice that in the morning she is a little lazy and would rather lay down than do her rehab. It takes a little longer in the morning to accomplish her rehab, but we continue to work on it and I can see her getting stronger every day.
