One Week Since Surgery
It has been a week since Dotti's surgery and tomorrow she has her first check and gets her stitches out. In the last week Dotti has continued to progress and has began to try to get on her feet by herself. While we don't want her to move much, it is a ray of hope that she is trying and somewhat succeeding. We have also learned that Dotti is being quite lazy with her rehab. The mornings are the worse, she would rather just lay down and in the afternoon she rolls over and wants you to pet her belly. This means we end up doing rehab more often and for longer amounts of time. In the end this may end up better, however, her constant want to move around may header her results.
Dotti has begun to whine more often while being in her kennel. Just today I was thinking, "She's sick of being in her kennel so much already but she has no idea she has several more weeks of this." It's hard to watch your puppy stay in a kennel for so many hours at a time, and while I have to constantly remind myself that it is what is best for her, it makes it difficult. We try to get her out of her kennel every few hours to lay down on the carpet with a little heater. The heater has been a saver, it keeps her from moving around, however, when she hears a noise she wants to bark and run after the noise like she use to. It has been difficult to watch her struggle and try so hard to move. While I sit here and talk about the difficulties she's having, I know that in just a few weeks we'll look back think this was all a breeze and be lucky to have her walking again.
On the bright side, we have set a goal for Dotti to be walking again... HALLOWEEN!! Halloween is exactly 6 weeks from the date Dotti came home. Wish Dotti luck!
